Wireless microphones are very useful for on-stage performance because they allow singers or users to free up themselves from being stuck at one point when speaking or singing. They work by connecting units to a wireless transmitter via a digital signal or radio frequency. The use of wireless microphones helps to cut out pesky cables that cause a lot of distraction to the user and audience. Nowadays, there are so many electronic solutions that are highly focusing on wireless technologies and capabilities. Wireless microphones have around for quite a while, and technology advancements have proved how powerful they can become if modified to higher levels.

Microphones transmitters are paramount and come in different size and shapes. The most common transmitter is the 3.5 mm jack that transmits sound from a microphone to the speaker or headphones. The type of transmitter to be used surely depends on the requirements of the user. Nowadays with the dynamic change in technology, there are so many wireless microphones that have been developed, and if you don’t have a lot of knowledge on how they work, you might end up choosing the wrong wireless microphone. This article will help you to learn more about wireless mics and how to choose the best cordless microphone for singers.

Different Types of Wireless Microphones And Their Applications

1. Handheld Microphone w/ Built-in Transmitter

This is the most commonly used mic among vocalist. It’s good for stage situations where the mic will be transferred from one person to another. Its wireless transmitter is strategically built into the body of the microphone, so there are only two components of this system; the wireless receiver and the handheld transmitter. Nowadays most manufacturers are developing wireless versions, and this helps singers to have total control of their performance without having to change or switch to a wireless system necessarily.

2. Headset Mic w/ Bodypack Transmitter

This system has one of the suitable wireless microphones for singers. It uses a head-worn microphone that is connected to a body-pack transmitter worn by the user together with the wireless receiver. The Headset Mic w/ Body-pack Transmitter is ideal for singing drummers, fitness instructors, people active on stage, singing dancers and for other performers who always move around during the performance.

3. Lavalier Mic w/ Bodypack Transmitter

This powerful mic system can be used at public events with quiet venues, e.g., lecture halls, sermon halls, etc. The mic can be connected or clipped to clothes and then connected with a body-pack transmitter that transmits to the wireless receiver. It can be used by presenters, speakers, stage actors and worship leaders. If you work in a noisy environment, it’s better to go for a directional lavalier microphone. And if you want use it with camera then it’s better to go with lav mic for dslr.

Buyer’s Guide:What To Consider When Buying The Best Wireless Microphones For Singers

Are you shopping for a wireless mic? Well, take the following factors into consideration, and you will be able to review the systems that are available in the market and come up with the best wireless mic for your intended use.

1) Budget

Wireless mic can go for a few hundred dollars (giving you the topmost quality). Affordable models typically go for $20 to $40 and how much money you are willing to spend depends on you. The more money you willing invest, the better the quality the mic will be.

2) Numbers of Microphones You Want Use At The Same Time

Most people searching for the best wireless microphones for singers are always looking for more than one mic. If you need multiple mics and speakers, buying a package that comprises multiple units of wireless microphones will save you a lot of money than buying single multiple mics.

3) Application of your Microphone

Where do you intend to use your Mic at? Will there be a distraction from objects, building, etc.? How far will you be from the receiver? Well, you will determine the type of Mic that you want with these questions. If you are not sure on which receiver and microphone to pick, just go with the middle range mics, they are quite good and very applicable. Lastly, you also need to know what type of wired microphone system that you need. There are three most commonly used systems; headsets, handheld mics, and lavalieres.

4) Type of Frequency That You Want Your System To Support

Wireless microphones supports two systems UHF (ultra high frequency) a VHF (Very high Frequency). The VHF system is one the oldest frequencies, and it has become outdated as better frequencies are being developed. It is very slow and competes a lot with the frequencies of radio stations around. UHF systems are way much better than VHF and provide higher frequencies that are less crowded.

You can either buy two Bluetooth microphone for laptop or use any existing mics at your home.

5) The Number of Antennas You Want Your Transmitter To Have

Having more antennas is good and can greatly help your system to capture the digital signal with ease. The number of antennas that you have will determine the strength of your signal, hence decreasing any chances of dropouts.

6) Analog VS Digital?

The main difference between analog and the digital system is that analog uses airwaves to transmit sound while digital systems convert audio into a signal on a transmitter. Analog systems are good but have a tendency of producing poor sounds sometimes if the airwaves have interfered. If you are looking for a reliable and the best wireless mic system that will not cause you all troubles and feedback, we recommend that you go with digital systems since they are more stable and precise.

7) Range

Range is a very influential factor that determines the type of microphone system that you should buy. For a home studio or personal use, you don’t have to necessarily pick a Mic system that has a strong range. But if you are going to use the system on a crowded audience or a hall where there is a lot of movement of people, then a powerful system with a strong range would be the best. It’s good to get a system that is at least twice the range of the distance between the receiver and mic.

1 thought on “16 Best Wireless Microphones for Singers 2024”

  1. Hi James
I run a community group that has 12 singers and a 6 piece band who also sing. We have a 16 channel mixer and a two speaker PA system with several spare channels. We are now looking for UHF wireless lapel or wireless headset microphones that will work for the 12 singers at least. We have tried Digitech microphones that work in the 520 to 526 MHz range and find that we can only use 6 without interference. Unfortunately the transmitting frequency is not marked on each unit so we are all at sea. I understand that it is preferable to have the units separated by one MHz. I am currently looking at XIAOKOA Super Light 2.4G 2400-2480MHz Wireless Headset Microphone System Headset and Handheld 2 in 1,160ft Range, for Voice Amplifier, PA System on Amazon but can’t get straight answers from them. Do you have any suggestions that could help us move forward.
